Every 3 hours a woman is raped in India : NCRB

Maharashtra ranks fourth in the country

New Delhi – According to the latest statistics released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a woman is raped every 3 hours in India. In 2022, a total of 31,516 rape cases were recorded across the country. The highest number of rapes occurred in Rajasthan, where 5,399 cases were registered. Uttar Pradesh followed with 3,690 rape cases, while Madhya Pradesh ranked third with 3,029 cases. Maharashtra ranked fourth, with 2,904 rape cases reported.

27% conviction rate

In India, only 27 out of every 100 accused in rape cases are convicted, meaning the conviction rate is just 27%. In 2022, out of the rape cases registered, only 18,000 cases were tried in the Court, and convictions were secured in 5,000 cases. In over 12,000 cases, the accused were acquitted. (This is shameful for the Indian Police and Judiciary ! With such a situation, will rape cases ever stop in the country ? – Editor).

Editorial Perspectives

  • If someone criticises by saying that India has become a country of rapists, how can that be refuted ?
  • These statistics are shameful for the nation. The question is whether the ruling parties, Police, administration, and judiciary are reflecting on this and taking appropriate action or not.
  • The repeated occurrence of rape cases is due to the fact that rapists have never been given the harshest punishments, and anti-social elements continuously work to ensure that they don’t receive such punishments.
