China built 170 villages on the borders of 9 countries including India
China is settling former soldiers in these villages
New Delhi – China has built more than 170 new villages along its 22,000 km long border with 9 neighbouring countries including India. The construction of these villages has been going on for the past 8 years under the guise of security projects implemented by President Xi Jinping. The Chinese army uses the villagers living here as informers. These villagers provide the Chinese military with intelligence on the movements of troops deployed by several bordering countries. Most of the villages are settled by Chinese army retirees.
1. The American newspaper New York Times and Planet Labs studied hundreds of satellite images of China’s international borders for 5 years.
2. This study has revealed information about settlements of these Chinese villages from Mongolia in the north of China to Central Asia, as well as Vietnam in the south.
3. Roads and internet services have also been made operational in these villages. The number of border villages in China is expected to reach 500 in the next 5 years.
4. The Chinese Government is paying ₹21,000 per month for patrolling these villages, which are located at an average altitude of 10,000 feet. Each family is being given approximately more than ₹2 lakh to settle there.
India revives border villages too
India has also begun reviving villages along the Line of Actual Control. According to China expert Brian Hart, ‘Under this plan, India is not building new villages, but reviving existing ones’.
