Minorities are being targeted in Bangladesh

Dr S Jaishankar in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi – External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday said the Government was in touch with the Indian community in violence-hit Bangladesh and asserted that it was monitoring the condition of minorities. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Jaishankar said the border security forces have been directed to be “exceptionally alert” amid reports of rampant looting and rioting in Bangladesh.

Calling the attacks on minorities and their houses “worrying”, Jaishankar said, “We are also monitoring the situation with regard to the status of minorities. There are reports of initiatives by various groups and organisations to ensure their protection and well-being. Naturally, we will remain deeply concerned till law and order is restored.”

S. Jaishankar said that violence has been going on in Bangladesh since July. Even after the Supreme Court’s decision, violence continues there. Police are also being attacked there.

The External Affairs Minister, who chaired an all-party meeting earlier in the day, said at very short notice Sheikh Hasina requested approval to come for the “moment” to India. However, he did not elaborate on the future plan of Hasina, who has been kept in a safe house near Delhi. An ISKCON temple in Meherpur

The Union Minister said of the 19,000 Indians in Bangladesh, around 9,000 people, mostly students, have returned.

“The situation in Bangladesh is still evolving. We are in close and continuous touch with Indians in Bangladesh through our diplomatic community. In the last 24 hours, we have been in touch with the authorities in Dhaka,” he further said.

Editorial Perspective

Since 1947 the minority i.e. Hindus are being targeted in Bangladesh. Due to this, Hindus who were 28% at that time are now not even 8%. During this time, India has not done anything for their security and even now nothing is being done ! This is a shameful for all party Governments in India and Hindus !
