Washington (USA) – USA has been closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh following reports of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and her departure from the country. US State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller addressed the current political turmoil and incidents of violence, urging all parties to maintain peace. “America stands with the people of Bangladesh,” Miller stated, emphasising the importance of non-violence during this transition period.

USA welcomed the decision to establish an interim government in Bangladesh, acknowledging the role of the Bangladeshi military in taking control of the situation. Miller expressed hope that the interim government would be set up promptly and that all decisions would be made in accordance with the law. Addressing the reported incidents of human rights violations in Bangladesh, Miller described them as very unfortunate and reiterated the expectation for lawful and fair governance during this critical time.

Editorial Perspective

The recent violence against Hindus in Bangladesh is deeply concerning, especially given the reported attacks in 27 districts and the killing of Hindu individuals, including two corporators. The destruction of Hindu temples further exacerbates the gravity of the situation. India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) should leverage this opportunity to draw attention to the hypocrisy of the USA, which always refers to Hindus as oppressors of Muslims but does not condemn attacks on Hindus.
