Wing Commander Afraj (retd) develops website to provide information about over 26,000 martyred soldiers
Bengaluru (Karnataka) – Air Force Wing Commander M.A. Afraj (retd) has compiled information on martyred soldiers and their families from across the country, making it accessible on the website ‘honourpoint.in’. The database is estimated to include details on over 26,000 soldiers.
Retd. Wing Commander M.A. Afraj said,
1. We aim for society to acknowledge these brave soldiers and help alleviate the suffering of their families. To this end, we have shared the stories of these martyred soldiers with the public. Please note that we are not seeking any Government support for this campaign.
2. There are nearly 200 war memorials across the country, but they only provide basic details such as names, ranks, and regiments of the soldiers. While awards like the Shaurya Chakra and Param Vir Chakra highlight their valour, there is a lack of information about their families and personal stories.
3. Flying Officer Farooq Bunsha displayed remarkable heroism during the 1965 war, but over time, his story faded from public memory. As we researched his life, we discovered that his betrothed bride had spent her entire life honouring his memory. Now 75 years old, she remains devoted despite her family’s disapproval of their relationship. When we shared their story, it led to a heartfelt reunion between their families.
