Pakistan cancels passport of 2,000 citizens for begging in foreign countries

Islamabad – The Pakistan Government has cancelled the Passports of 2,000 citizens who were travelling abroad to beg. The news has been published by Pakistani newspaper ‘Dawn’. Presently the inflation in Pakistan is sky high, putting it in grave economic danger. Pakistan is begging for financial aid from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Pakistani beggars are not getting enough alms in Pakistan and hence decided to try their luck abroad. As this would bring ignominy to the country, the Government has cancelled their passports.

According to the news published in ‘Dawn’, many beggars travel to Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq etc. for pilgrimage or Umrah, and start begging upon reaching there. the Pakistan Government has asked their embassies to gather information about such beggars and make a list. Pakistanis caught begging in the foreign countries will have their passports cancelled for 7 years. Due to these people, the dignity of Pakistan and the Pakistani nationals living abroad, is negatively affected. Hence, the Pakistan Government has taken this bold decision. The passport agents who helped these beggars get a passport would also face action.
