Cancel Asaduddin Owaisi’s status as a Member of Parliament
Advocate H.H. Hari Shankar Jain’s demand to the President, about the Parliamentarian expressing allegiance to Palestine in the House
New Delhi – During his swearing-in ceremony, AIMIM party leader and MP Asaduddin Owaisi chanted “Jai Bhim, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine,” followed by “Allah-hu-Akbar” (Only Allah is great). This has led to significant opposition against Owaisi, with calls for the cancellation of his MP status. Many BJP MPs have objected to Owaisi’s slogans and lodged protests.
Advocate H.H. Hari Shankar Jain has filed a complaint against Asaduddin Owaisi with the President under Articles 102 and 103 of the Constitution. Advocates Amita Sachdeva and Vibhor Anand have also filed similar complaints with the Lok Sabha Secretariat. BJP MLA T Raja Singh stated, “If you love Palestine so much, pick up a gun and go there.” Owaisi defiantly responded, “I have said everything openly.”
According to current parliamentary rules, if any member of the House expresses loyalty to a foreign state, they can be disqualified from membership to the Lok Sabha or any House of Parliament.
Editorial Perspective
It is not surprising for anti-India individuals like Owaisi to make such statement. However, showing allegiance to Palestine instead of one’s own country, implies declaring loyalty to Islam over India, thus necessitating action against him. |
