Rahul Gandhi becomes the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha
New Delhi – Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has become the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The party announced this following a meeting of leaders of INDI Alliance at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Following this, Congress Parliamentary Board President Sonia Gandhi has written a letter to Interim Speaker of Lok Sabha Bhartruhari Mahtab in this regard. Rahul Gandhi will be the third member of the Gandhi family to hold the post of Leader of the Opposition. Earlier, his father Rajiv Gandhi held this post in 1989-90, while his mother Sonia Gandhi held the post from 1999 to 2004. Interestingly, this post has been vacant for the last 10 years. In 2014 and 2019, none of the opposition parties had the required 10% members. A party needs to have 55 members out of a total of 543 for the post of Leader of the Opposition.
