18 Indian fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy
This year till date 182 Indian fishermen arrested
Colombo (Sri Lanka) – The Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 18 Indian fishermen for illegally fishing in Sri Lankan waters. They have confiscated 3 fishing boats as well. Captain Gayan Wickramasuriya, the Sri Lankan Navy’s spokesmen, said, that the arrested fishermen have been taken to Kankesanturai fishing harbour for further legal proceedings.

Last week the Sri Lankn navy had arrested 4 Indian fishermen under the same accusation and confiscated their boats. The Navy has said that in the year 2024 till now 182 Indian fishermen have been arrested till date. And their 25 boats have been confiscated. Last year 245 Indian fishermen had been arrested.

On one hand the Sri Lankan President says that Sri Lanka could come out the economic disaster because of India’s help; and on the other Sri Lanka arrests Indian fishermen. This kind of behaviour of Sri Lanka should be noted and looked into. |
