Canada provokes India again by paying tribute to Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Parliament

Ottawa (Canada) – Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was assassinated in Surrey, Canada, on 18^thJune 2023. On 18^thJune this year, the Canadian Parliament observed a two-minute silence to mark the anniversary of Nijjar’s death and pay tribute to him. Earlier, Canada had accused India of being involved in Nijjar’s assassination but failed to provide any evidence to support this claim.

On 18^thJune, at the end of the parliamentary session, Speaker Greg Fergus said, “After discussions among the leaders of all parties in this House, I believe that the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia happened a year ago. On the first anniversary of this incident, all members have agreed to observe a two-minute silence in the House.” Following this, all members in the House stood up and observed two minutes of silence, after which the session ended.

India’s response to Canada

Organised a tribute meeting in Canada for the victims of the attack on the ‘Kanishka’ plane by Khalistani terrorists

The Indian Consulate in Canada has responded to Canada’s act of paying tribute to Nijjar. In a post on ‘X’, the Consulate stated, “India stands at the forefront of countering the menace of terrorism and works closely with all nations to tackle this global threat. June 23, 2024 marks the 39^thAnniversary of the cowardly terrorist bombing of Air India flight 182 (Kanishka), in which 329 innocent victims including 86 children, lost their lives in one of the most heinous terror-related air disasters in the history of civil aviation. A Memorial Service is scheduled at 1200 hrs on June 23, 2024 at the Air India Flight 182 Monument at Commissioner’s Park, Dow’s Lake, Ottawa. The High Commission encourages members of the Indian Diaspora to join the event in a show of solidarity against terrorism.” It was later revealed that Canada had indirectly supported this attack. Therefore, India has organised this event in response to Canada.

Details of the attack

On 22^ndJune 1985, an Air India flight took off from Montreal airport in Canada, heading to New Delhi. The next day, on 23^rdJune 1985, while the aircraft was flying over Irish airspace, a massive explosion occurred, causing the plane to disintegrate and crash into the Atlantic Ocean. This attack was carried out by Khalistani terrorists in retaliation for ‘Operation Blue Star’ (name of the Indian Army’s June 1984 operation against Khalistani terrorists at the Golden Temple in Amritsar). All 329 people, including the crew, were killed in the attack. Indian intelligence agencies had informed the Canadian Government about this Khalistani attack, but the Canadian Government did not take any precautions.
