Galkin and other scientists were accused of sending documents related to hypersonic technology abroad. His colleagues and lawyers said he only studied physical processes, not making weapons.
Earlier, a scientist named Dimitri died 2 days after his arrest. They were accused of providing information about these weapons to foreign spies.
Currently, there is an environment of fear among scientists in Russia. Scientists in Russia are in contact with scientists abroad to exchange information. Still, Russia’s intelligence agency, the Federal Security Service (FSB), considers it a crime for Russian scientists to keep in touch with foreign scientists.
What are hypersonic weapons ?
Weapons that travel 5 to 25 times faster than the speed of sound are called hypersonic weapons. In short, these weapons can travel 6,200 kilometres in one hour. It is because of this ability that they are considered dangerous.
