Muslim reservation to continue in Andhra Pradesh : TDP

BJP’s position awaited

Telugu Desam Party leader Ravindra Kumar

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) – “Muslim reservation in Andhra Pradesh will remain as it is. There is no problem in that,” said Ravindra Kumar, the leader of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which is an important ally in the BJP-led NDA. While the BJP’s policy is against giving reservation to the Muslims, it will be interesting to see what position it takes on TDP’s decision to continue the Muslim reservation.

The BJP during the election campaign, had raised the point of Congress giving reservation to Muslims in Karnataka. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had stated that ‘Reservation cannot be given on the basis of religion, we will never give it’. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy had criticised the TDP and alleged that they would cancel the Muslim reservation in the State. In response, TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu had declared that TDP would not cancel the Muslim reservation.
