66% of the defectors contesting Lok Sabha elections lost
Only 20 out of 56 defectors from BJP, while 7 out of 29 from Congress won
New Delhi – 66% of the candidates who got tickets by switching parties have been defeated in the Lok Sabha elections. All the parties together nominated 127 defectors on behalf of their party. Out of them, only 48 candidates won while 84 faced defeat. BJP had nominated 56 candidates from other parties. Of these, only 20 won, while 36 lost. Congress had nominated 29 candidates from other parties. Out of them only 7 candidates could win while 22 faced defeat. In Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress nominated 6 defectors; but except Shatrughan Sinha, who won from Asansol, all the five candidates lost the election. Only 12 win out of 44 candidates who left Congress to join other parties
44 leaders who left the Congress contested the election on the tickets of other parties. Only 12 of them could win. Other parties gave tickets to 24 leaders who defected to the BJP. Only 6 of them won. Samajwadi Party nominated 18 leaders from other parties. 10 of them won.
