Cellar found near Hanuman door in Shri Vitthal Temple of Pandharpur
Pandharpur, Maharashtra – While restoration work was in progress near the Hanuman door in Shri Vitthal Temple here, a cellar was found on 31st May at 2 a.m. The length and breadth of this cellar is 6’ x 6′. On 31st May, this cellar was inspected in the presence of the members of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Temple Committee and Varkaris. Many idols were found in the room. An idol of a Goddess measuring 3.5’ height, along with other idols, was found. The preliminary calculation suggests that the idol of the Goddess could date back to the 12th or 13th century. Along with all these idols, a few coins have also been found. Further research will be carried out on these idols and the coins.
