Soldier’s wife gang-raped in Jharkhand

Place of incident

Ranchi (Jharkhand) – The wife of an Indian Army soldier, currently stationed on the Ladakh border, was gang-raped in the Pokhartoli area of Ranchi. The incident occurred between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. on 27thMay, when four youths broke into her house and assaulted her. The victim was living in the house with her 7-year-old and 4-month-old daughters and was constructing a new house on her land in Pokhartoli.

Locals report that there had been a dispute between the woman and her husband and some local youths regarding the construction contract for the house. The contract had initially been awarded to these youths but was withdrawn due to delays in their work. It is suspected that the anger over losing the contract may have led these youths to commit the crime.
