China joins hands with the Taliban ignoring Pakistan’s opposition : May affect geopolitical relations
China becomes the first country to recognise Taliban
Beijing (China) – The Taliban’s relations with China have improved since it took over Afghanistan in 2021. China is the first country in the world to establish diplomatic ties with the Taliban by extending humanitarian aid, entering into huge contracts for investments, appointing an ambassador in Kabul, and accepting the Taliban’s ambassador. China is trying to increase its influence in this region. The ongoing ambitious ‘Belt and Road’ project of China with Pakistan goes through Afghanistan, but Pakistan’s relations with the Taliban are strained due to Taliban-sponsored terrorist activities in Pakistan. China has ignored Pakistan’s opposition and joined hands with the Taliban.
1. China and Pakistan will follow their own policies, but the ups and downs in these tripartite relations will decide the future of Afghanistan and regional stability.
2. Many countries are appealing to China to impose restrictions on the Taliban. In January 2024, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that the Taliban Government should be comprehensive and include non- Talibani and non-Pashtun factions.
Editorial Perspective
New facets of China’s selfish policies are exposed through such proximity and show China can go to any extent to fulfil its demonic ambitions. It is clear that China will not hesitate to eliminate Afghanistan and Pakistan if need be. |
