Cyclone Remal causes stone quarry collapse in Mizoram, killing 10
Aizawl (Mizoram) – The impact of Cyclone Remal has caused significant damage in eastern India. A stone quarry in the capital city of Aizawl collapsed at 6 a.m. on 28thMay due to incessant rains. The incident, which occurred in the Meltham and Halimen areas of the city, resulted in the deaths of 10 people, while many more are feared to be buried.

Mizoram Director General of Police, Anil Shukla, reported that 10 bodies have been recovered so far, with 7 being local residents and 3 from other States. Although rescue operations are ongoing, they are being hampered by the continuous heavy rains.
All schools and Government offices in the State closed
The incessant rains have led to the closure of all schools and Government offices across the State. Private companies have also urged employees to work from home. The heavy rains have triggered landslides in several areas, resulting in further casualties and damage. 2 people have died due to these landslides, and 3 individuals are missing after a building was swept away by water following a landslide.
