Iranian President Raisi dies in a helicopter crash
9 people, including Iran’s Foreign Minister, died in the crash
Tehran (Iran) – Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi died on 19th May in an accident where a helicopter crashed near the city of Jolfa, on the Azerbaijan border. It is reported that a total of 9 people, including the Foreign Minister, died along with him. Raisi’s convoy included 3 helicopters, out of which 2 reached their destinations safely; however, one met with an accident. Raisi had gone to the city near the Azerbaijan border to inaugurate a dam with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
The helicopter was searched after it suddenly went missing in the evening of 19th May. Drones were used for this search. It was found that the helicopter had crashed in the forest. Rescue operations were then carried out. Experts say that the accident happened because Raisi’s helicopter suddenly got caught in the fog.
Iran’s Vice President Mohammad Mokhber to be interim President
After Raisi’s accidental death, Iran’s Vice President Mohammad Mokhber (age 68) will now be appointed as the interim President. As the interim President, Mokhber will now be part of a 3-member committee. This committee, which includes the Speaker of the Parliament and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, will announce the presidential elections within the next 50 days.
Suspicion of SabotageThere is suspected sabotage behind the helicopter crash. Due to Iran’s enmity with Israel and the United States, it is said that these two countries eliminated Raisi; however, it is not yet clear that this accident was a sabotage. Israel has also denied the involvement of its intelligence agency ‘Mossad’. |
Crackers burst in celebration in Mahsa Amini’s city
There were huge celebrations in Iran’s Kurdistan region after the death of President Ebrahim Raisi. Mahsa Amini, known for sacrificing her life in protest against the ‘hijab’, originally belonged to Saqqez. Mahsa Amini participated in the demonstrations against the ‘hijab’ in Iran. She was arrested by the Police when she left her house without wearing a ‘hijab’ and she was severely thrashed. She died in a hospital during treatment. After her death, she became known in Iran as a woman who fought for women’s rights. Women took to the streets in her support all over Iran, and she became world-famous. People from Saqqez were deeply angry with Raisi which was demonstrated even after his death.
