Pakistan once again begs at the IMF : Demands USD 6 bn (Rs 50,000 crore) worth of assistance

Islamabad (Pakistan) – Pakistan’s economic situation remains dire. It has once again requested the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for USD 6 bn (Rs 50,000 crore) worth of assistance. Pakistan is suffering from a huge fiscal deficit. To deal with this cash crunch, Pakistan has reached out to the IMF for a new ‘bailout package’. A bailout package is a means of providing financial assistance to a country in financial distress.

A team of IMF has arrived in Pakistan to discuss the bailout package. If the talks are successful, it will be the 24thbailout package given to Pakistan by the IMF. Julie Kozack, Head of Communications at the IMF, said a team that travelled to Pakistan will discuss the bailout package with Pakistani officials this week. Our group may stay in Pakistan for the next 10 days. Apart from this, the upcoming budget for the financial year 2024-25 will also be discussed with the officials of the Ministry of Finance.

Editorial Perspective

India must create a pressure group of countries globally to ensure that Pakistan receives financial assistance only if it eradicates Jihadi terrorism originating from its land.
