Kolkata (Bengal) – Four Hindu temples were vandalised on the same night at Dhupguri, Kholai village, located in Jalpaiguri District of the State. The idols of the Deities were also vandalised. The vandalised temples include two dedicated to Shri Kalimata, one to Deity Shiva, and one to Deity Shani. These attacks appear to have been premeditated, given that they all occurred on the same night. When the correspondent from the daily ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ contacted Jalpaiguri Additional Commissioner of Police (Rural) Samir Ahmed for details about the incident, he refused to provide any information.

1. According to local news channels, the Choupathi Shri Kalimata Temple, Satvendi Shri Shiv Temple, Janglibari Shri Kali Temple, and Gorerari Shri Shani Temple were attacked.

2. This has created a wave of anger among Hindus in the entire area. Enraged protesters blocked all roads, including National Highway 27, at several locations. Additionally, trains were stopped at many places, including Shalbari, Falakata. Police en route to the scene were also stopped.

3. Local Hindus organised an open assembly, where representatives of vandalised temples were present, along with local Hindu Saints.

4. Jalpaiguri Police Commissioner Khandbahale Umesh Ganpat brought the situation under control with a large Police force. The Commissioner stated that this incident is unacceptable and promised strict action against the culprits. The Police are currently investigating the matter. FIRs were lodged by the respective temple committees in presence of thousands of locals and activists of different Hindu organisations, including Vishva Hindu Parishad and Hindu Jagran Manch. The complaint mentioned that a local person noticed the vandalism at 5 a.m. on 18th May.

Hindu community in danger under Trinamool Congress rule : BJP

In this matter, the BJP criticised the policies of the ruling Trinamool Congress party in Bengal. West Bengal BJP posted on X, “This violent act is a direct consequence of TMC’s relentless appeasement politics, which perpetually endangers the Hindu community.”

Meanwhile, the Vishva Hindu Parishad attributed the attacks to the failure of the local administration.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Looking at the events in Bengal, one might conclude that Bengal has now become another Bangladesh. Communists and Trinamool Congress party are responsible for this. Therefore, it is imperative to implement President’s Rule in the State, introduce the National Register of Citizens (NRC), and expel all Bangladeshi infiltrators.
  • If such incident had occurred in relation to Muslims, there would have been widespread arson and attacks on Hindus throughout the country.
