‘Everest’ and ‘MDH’ spices also banned in Nepal
Kathmandu (Nepal) – After Hongkong and Singapore, Nepal too has banned the sale of spices manufactured by Indian Companies ‘Everest’ and ‘MDH’. Nepal’s Department of Food Technology and Quality Control suspected the presence of a pesticide called ethylene oxide in these spices. Hence, a decision has been taken to ban the sale, storage and import of spices manufactured by these two companies.
1. Mohan Krishna Maharaj, Spokesperson of Nepal’s Food Technology and Quality Control Department, said that Everest and MDH spices are being tested and the ban will remain in force till the reports are received.
2. The USA, Britain, New Zealand and Australia have already ordered the testing of these spices. Britain’s Food Security Department has ordered the testing of all the spices that are imported from India.
