Indians in the east look like Chinese, while they look like Africans in the south : Sam Pitroda
Indian Overseas Congress President Sam Pitroda’s racist statement about Indians
New Delhi – Indian Overseas Congress president Sam Pitroda sparked a controversy with his recent remarks on India’s diversity, following his earlier controversial statement about inheritance tax. In an interview with the English newspaper ‘The Statesman’, Pitroda commented that people from the eastern regions of India resemble Chinese, while those from the southern parts resemble Africans. These remarks have drawn criticism for their insensitivity towards India’s rich cultural diversity. Pitroda’s statement adds to a series of controversial remarks he has made in the past.

Outrageous to compare Indians with Chinese and Africans : PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his outrage during a gathering in Warangal, Telangana, upon learning of Sam Pitroda’s comparison of Indians to Chinese and Africans. He criticised Pitroda, who is considered a mentor to Rahul Gandhi, stating, “The philosopher of the prince insulted the countrymen based on colour. The prince will have to answer for this.” Modi questioned, “Will the quality of the people of my country be judged by the colour of their skin ? Who gave them the right to play games based on a person’s colour ?” He further remarked, “People dancing with the Constitution on their heads are insulting my country.”
Comparison made by Pitroda is wrong and unacceptable : Congress
Soon after Sam Pitroda’s statement was released, the Congress has distanced itself from it. Congress has said that Pitroda’s definition of India’s diversity is not acceptable. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “Sam Pitroda’s comparison about the people of India is wrong and unacceptable.” (It is imperative for the Congress leaders to not just disavow such statements but also to take decisive action. What steps will the party take against him ? – Editor).
Editorial Perspective
Sam Pitroda is one of those who decide Congress party’s policies and direction. If this person has such racist and narrow mentality, better not to think of others. |
