Youth beaten to death by a mob in Punjab
Youth was accused of tearing Guru Granth Sahib
Chandigarh – A mob thrashed a 19-year-old youth named Bakshish Singh after he allegedly tore some pages from the Guru Granth Sahib kept at the Baba Bir Singh Gurdwara in Ferozepur, Punjab. Some of the attackers attacked the accused with swords. The Police took injured Bakshish Singh to the hospital, but they declared him dead there. After the boy’s death, his father, Lakhwinder Singh said that his son was not mentally sound. He demanded legal proceedings against the killers of Bakshish Singh. The Police are investigating further in this case.
In this case, the Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee (SGPC) has issued a statement and announced a social and religious boycott on the family of the deceased youth. SGPC has issued orders forbidding deceased Bakshish Singh’s cremation in any Gurdwara.
