We support creation of Palestinian State to resolve the Israel-Hamas conflict : India
Demand for the release of Israeli hostages
New York (USA) – India has announced its support for Palestine’s call at the United Nations to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Ruchira Kamboj, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Security Council, stated that recognising Palestine as a sovereign State would enable its people to live securely within their own borders.
Kamboj also urged for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas, emphasising that terrorism cannot be justified. India has consistently opposed terrorism and will continue to do so. She stressed the importance of both Israel and Hamas adhering to international and humanitarian laws. Additionally, India called upon countries to increase humanitarian assistance to Gaza during this critical time.
On 18th April, a proposal for Palestine’s permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council was put forward. However, this proposal faced opposition and could not be finalised due to a veto from the United States. Typically, resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council are then presented to the UN for a vote.
